Windows update assistant downloading files onto wrong drive

 · I think windows update might have been applied to the wrong drive, and I need to check that windows update is in the "right place". Kind of a long story but here goes: I cloned my boot drive onto my second drive. I booted up from the second drive.  · 1. While if we need to spare the drive's space, we may clear the folder: stop windows update service, delete this folder, then restart windows update service; then SoftwareDistribtion will be created again without old files.  · The Windows update utility cannot download them to an external drive but you can. You can use a utility such as WUMgr to identify the updates you need and you can then download them to wherever you want, including your external drive, and install them from there.
